So. So guys.
The news came last week, but I wasn't sure I was going to officially do it until today, and I thought you all might like to know: I have a production management internship with New York Stage and Film this summer!
I am SUPER excited about this opportunity ... with, of course, a side of nervous, a dash of terrified, and a fair slathering of can't-even-think-that-far-ahead-yet gravy. The internship is going to be a bit different from my last summer gig, in Staunton with the American Shakespeare Center; for one thing it's in a bigger city (Poughkeepsie, actually - despite the name of the company, I will actually be spending my working time an hour by train upstate from the Big Apple), it's an 8-week new work/development-type season (which you can read more about here - it sounds really cool), and their summer residency includes up to 20 screenplays, musicals, workshops and readings alongside more traditional staged works. They're about training new artists alongside showcasing already-established people, and they are, of course, a lot closer connected to Broadway than I ever expected to be.
Also, did I mention this season takes place in just eight weeks? It's intense, guys. I may have to step up my workout routine just to survive. They try to give you a day off every week, but that doesn't always work out because, hey, we are making All The Theatre!
Like I said. Terrifying. And awesome.
(Of course, on the practical side, I have to figure out how to make my budget stretch to accommodate two months away. NYS&F provides housing for their interns, which is fantastic (kind of the deciding factor, actually), but I definitely still have to eat. And get there. And get home again. So that'll be fun. If anyone wants to recommend any good temp jobs in STL that will hire me for three weeks in May, feel free to share...)
Anyway, starting in June, you can expect this space to get much more exciting, as I'm going to do everything I can to make time to blog about things. In the meantime: thanks for reading. Life is pretty amazing today.
Okay! This sounds AMAZING! Be open to all options and opportunities that are about to come your way! I can not say enough how very proud of you I am. It is also nice to read and LEARN from my neice. Continuing sharing and growing. I think you are helping more people than you know.
